FORDOG VOLUNTEERS INSTALL NEW DRAINS AT PHOENIX DOG PARK |
The Drain Project was completed on Saturday, May 5th. At the bottom of this photo album, there is a list of the volunteers. It is quite impressive what a community can accomplish when everyone pitchs in! XXXXX<Dan Barkley>
Friday, April 13th
Five FORDOG Volunteers arrive at New Phoenix Dog Park to begin the project. They cut five concrete pads in preparation to remove the old drains, then remove the excess concrete. The Park District supplied a generator and a jack hammer. FORDOG volunteers bring shovels, digging bars, drills, two concrete saws, hoses, electrical chords and other various tools. In 3 and 1/2 hours, they complete the first phase of the project.
Hats off to Buck, Tom, Sky (who became a new father on Sunday), Travis, and Dan |

Old Drains and Waste Concrete |
Saturday, April 14th - It rains almost all day!
Sunday, April 15th
A dozen volunteers show up with shovels, wheelbarrows, digging bars and other various tools. FORDOG rents a Ditch Witch to dig the trenches. Buck donates the drain pipe, cleanout spouts, and popups. FORDOG purchases the catch basins. The FORDOG Steering Committee donates water and lunch.
At the end of 6 and 1/2 hours, this crew installs all of the new catch basins and drainage pipe. They worked VERY hard. |

Ferrell ran that Ditch Witch all day and dug the trenches for 5 drains. The rest of the crew widened the trenches, poured a LOT of gravel and layed pipe. |

The crew lays pipe and pours gravel. |
The first drain is completed. Notice the larger catch basin and further down is a "clean out" pipe and a pop-up valve for excess water. The drain pipes are 4 inches in diameter. |

| This is one of the wading pool pads. Notice the large 12-inch catch basin. The drain pipes run outside of the dog park. |
All the catch basins and drain pipes have been installed. Next phase: remove the excess dirt and re-pour the concrete.
