We were initially looking for a companion for APOLLO, our other Husky. We drove to Marysville where a young girl had rescued "Lady" from a bad situation and needed to find her a good home quickly.
The day after we got her, we got the awful news that "Lady" was positive for heartworm. "Lady" goes in July 11 to start her treatment.
Her original name is "Lady", but since we have Apollo, we wanted to personalize her name by adding ARTEMIS to her name. (GREEK MYTHOLOGY: ARTEMIS IS APOLLO's TWIN SISTER.)
Lady ARTEMIS is a sweetheart. She loves to go to the dog park, but her play is limited for now until she is completely well. Lady Artemis and Apollo are getting along great, and the two of them together get a lot of attention. They are both such beautiful, great, dogs.
Lady ARTEMIS is a wonderful dog to take on walks and very gentle on the lead. She loves her boy, Lukas (our son), and was a great birthday present for him. Lukas is learning about owning and caring for a dog, and she is a great canine to teach him to be a responsible pet owner.
We all enjoy our frequent visits to the dog park and can't wait until Lady is well enough to return.

An update on Lady's health: September 14, 2007
Hello:
We have great news! Lady Artemis has tested negative on her post-treatment heartworm test today. She is free and clear to come back to the dog park and play. We will be bringing her and Apollo to the park tomorrow morning so Lady can get chipped.
We wanted to reward "Lady Artemis" with the FORDOG K9 of the Month, now that she has came through so much since we got her in late June. She has made it through so much, we think she deserves something for it; the shelter and abusive homes, temporary homes where she was stricken with heartworm before she finally made it to us, her permanent forever family. We have been through so much together in the short time we have had her. Rescuing her, then her testing positive for heartworm, the treatment and recovery, and now she can start to finally play and interact with not only Apollo (our other Husky), but other new friends she might encounter at the park. It seems like the past couple months have been so much longer....We are so happy that Lady Artemis has made it through all she has been through and now she will be forever pampered and happy!
Thank you!
Tawna, Matt & Lukas
