Lightfoot was 14 years old & just as handsome the day he died on July 5, 2008 as he was when I rescued him at age 8 months way back when. Pet Finders had him in foster homes while trying to find his owner. According to Veterinary records, Lightfoot was owned by a homeless person who received free Vet services but after that they tried for two months unsuccessfully to find his owner. I was in the right place on the right day when I spotted Lightfoot up for adoption at a pet food store. It was love at first sight!
The concensus of opinion was that he was a mixture of German Shepard & Greyhound. Slight & delicate in build (50 Lbs.) to me he took on mostly the Greyhound features. Lightfoot was quite the acrobat with the frisbee & tennis balls & for a few years showed off a high jump with a half gaynor or flip high in mid-air before catching the frisbee. You never saw more pride & happiness in the face & body language of a dog when I praised him for doing such a good job! He was quite the swimmer, too.
Lightfoot took the death of our beautiful Yellow Lab "Daisy" in stride, but when " Shasta" died, (our white long-haired, very beautiful German Shepard), he mourned pathetically for several months while I tried everything I knew to console him.
When I brought Oliver home (Golden Retriever) about 2 years ago, Lightfoot ran & hid from this rambunctious 8-week old terror & quietly asked me to take him back! But in less than a month, they were great buddies & always played together beautifully.
But then about 6 months ago Lightfoot started getting ill & couldn't play with Oliver much and I believe both of them were sad about that. The last week was very difficult with trips to the Vet, trying to get Lightfoot better, but on July 5, he reluctantly said goodbye & so did Oliver & I. We miss him greatly. We loved him so dearly.
