Maggie was born March 24, 2004 in Hillsboro, Illinois. She is a pedigreed Newfoundland. Actually, the black and white Newfie’s are called Landseers although they are considered Newfoundland’s by breed.
Maggie had a rough start. She was sent to Sacramento through a puppy mill at 3 months old, she was adopted by a lovely lady who after 3 months decided she just couldn’t handle a 50 pound puppy so she put an add in the Sacramento Bee looking for a home.
Bob and Lynnette lost their beloved Great Pyrenees 6 months earlier and where thinking about adopting another big breed. Meeting Maggie, a big fluffy ball of fur so full of joyful energy made the decision a no brainier. She stole our hearts that very first day and so she came to live at our house.
Sad news followed a few months later when we realized she was having difficulty walking. So at nine months old, she had her first surgery. Dr. Richardson a great surgeon here in Sacramento reconstructed her back hip and after 6 months of recovery she bounced around like a new dog. We first brought her to the Fair Oaks Dog Park shortly after her recovery. She was in heaven. She loved the people and especially enjoyed socializing with other dogs. Maggie is a very curious, almost nosey dog…..she just has to know what is going on with every human and every animal.
A year later she was again struggling but this time it was her front legs. And so Dr. Richardson went in and cleaned out first her right elbow then her left elbow, a 4 month recovery followed. Maggie was a trooper through it all. She never complained and was patience through the recovery periods which was amazing because she is so young.
Today, as I watch her run and play at the dog park……her favorite place in the world, I smile and I am so, so grateful she is at last healthy.
She is always loving and MUST greet each and every human being in the park. She feels it’s her job! When she comes and sits on your feet, remember it’s a great honor!
She is the love of our life and we give thanks each and every day for her joyful energy and good health.
