The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District (FORPD) has just gone live with a new mail address for informing them of water leaks in their parks.

That email address:   waterleaks@fairoakspark.org

This system just went live in the last few weeks and will make it easier for park users to report and park district staff to respond to water problems.  We encourage you to use this new system for reporting water leaks or water problems in the Phoenix Dog Park.

FORDOG is in regular contact with park district staff about the chronic leaks in the dog park. And park staff continues to work on the problems, which they tell us they have been unable to clearly diagnose - other than to verify their existence. They are as frustrated as we are. The intent of the new reporting system is to help them identify and address water problems more quickly in the hopes of getting these issues under control.

Update on turf conditions in dog park; recent water shut off

In response to the drought and to meet state-mandated water reduction requirements, the park district is reducing watering in parts of the all of their parks. At Phoenix Dog Park, the more limited water has had two noticeable effects:  1) We are seeing fewer muddy holes in areas previously subject to them (a good thing!), and 2) The grass is browning out in parts of both the large and small dog areas.  The park district's new watering plan is a work in progress as they work to manage an aging sprinkler system to meet state water reduction goals ands still maintain green grass as much as possible.  Staff continues to monitor the effects with the goal of limiting the grass die-back. We appreciate your patience as they fine tune the watering system to meet these goals.

In addition, we had a recent situation where all water was shut off to the dog park.  The problem was a significant leak in another part of the park which required turning off all water to make the needed repairs. The park district was made aware of the inconvenience to those using the dog park at the time - and worked quickly to address the issue and get the water back on as quickly as possible. While we hope this kind of situation doesn't occur again, we understand that it can and encourage park users to make the best immediate health and safety decisions for your pets, and then inform the park district staff through the use of the new "water leaks" email provided above.
